First half goals by Will Warner and Seth Johnson led the Pella High Dutch to a 2-0 win over the Knoxville Panthers Tuesday, May 6.
The victory elevated the Dutch to 5-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference and to 10-3-1 overall.
The Panthers slipped to 5-5 with the setback and they are 2-3 in the LHC.
The goal by Warner came at 9” and Johnson’s kick that found the back of the net was 36” into the match with an assist by Anthony Bentzinger.
The match was played at the Pelal City Soccer Complex on a warm and windy night.
Pella Coach Mark Solomon commented, “Pella took control in the ninth minute with a goal by Will Warner, but Knoxville improved their movement of the ball, and nearly scored using the speed of their forwards against the Pella defense.”
The coach added, “In the second half, Pella continued to move the ball very well especially among the defenders and switching sides of the field. However, Knoxville also improved their play. The Panthers locked down on their defense, and the Dutch were unable to finish any of their opportunities for the rest of the game.”
