Dutch track team finishes 3rd at the Washington Demon Relays

For late March the weather wasn’t bad, but cold and wind put the athletes to a test with the elements in the season opening outdoor track meet for the Pella High Little Dutch.

Pella traveled to Washington to compete in the Demon Relays Friday night.

Mount Pleasant racked up 92 points to win the meet followed by Cedar Rapids Prairie with 83.5 and Pella in third with 75.

It was a good starting point for Pella coach Brent Van Hauen’s team.

The Dutch had one winning entry for the night as the 4x800 relay team of Levi Heschke, Jordan Pingle, Payson Vande Lune and Aaron Houtz ran 8:20.89.

Pella also added three runner-up finishes en route to scoring 75 points. Garret Jansen was second in the discus with a throw of 138’9”.

The Little Dutch were second in the 400 meter hurdles with Jordan Pingel clocking in at 57.42 seconds.

Pella’s 1600 medley relay team of Nathan Henry, Austin Schulte, Michael Buma and Levi Heschke finished with a time of 4:00.92.
