---- — The Pella High varsity boys’ golf team defended their championship from a year earlier at the Knoxville Panther Golf Invitational.
The Dutch shot a varsity score of 317 to win by 17 strokes over its nearest competitor in the nine-team field Saturday at the Pine Knolls Country Club Course in Pella.
Sophomore Corey Elliott, of Pella, was meet medalist with rounds of 37-38 for a 75.
Junior Sean Rennich was third in the medalist chase with rounds of 39-40 for a 79. Rennich finished third in the medalist chase after winning a three-player playoff with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
The rest of the Pella scoring had Colton Bradley at 81, Jack Meyer 82, Jake Dorman 83 and Trevor Argo at 98.
Only the four low scores counted in the Pella team total.
The Pella Christian Eagles finished in sixth place at the Knoxville Invite.
The Eagles were led by Justin Stravers, who shot a 79 and was in the three-man playoff for third place. Stravers finished fifth overall.
The rest of the PC varsity scoring had Josh Posthuma at 88, Mitch Fopma 92 and Mason Howerzyl 92.
Also golfing for the Eagles but not counting in the team total were Jason Holwerda and Tanner Van Maanen.
