Turner wrestles way to top, earns All-American status

For Landon Turner a 5th grader at Jefferson Intermediate School, the son of Steve and Kathy Turner, of Pella, the 2012–13 wrestling season turned out not only to be exciting, but a very successful one.

Landon wrestled in 14 national tournaments this season becoming a National Champion in eight of them, finishing 2nd (All-American Status) in four tournaments and finishing 3rd (All-American Status) in two tournaments.

Landon was able to make the finals in 13 of 14 national tournaments this season compiling a 59-7 record.

Back on April 14, Landon competed in the final tournament for the World of Wrestling season at the Reno World Championships in Reno, Nevada placing 3rd. His 3rd place finish earned him enough points to win the overall points championship at the 10 & under 80 pound weight class earning him a spot on the 2013 World All Star Team and National No. 1 ranking.

Landon recorded a 27-5 record this season in WOW events, the most difficult youth wrestling series in the country.

Landon’s success was also felt in the Rocky Mountain Nationals Wrestling Series where he completed an unblemished record of 24-0 winning the RMN Tri-State Belt, Triple Crown, Golden Gear, RMN Championship Belt and RMN Ring of Fame awards for winning six national events.

The young Pella student also carries a No. 1 National Ranking for the 10 & Under 81 lb. weight class and he is currently the No. 1 overall ranked wrestler for the entire RMN Wrestling Series.

Landon finished the American Crown Series with a record of 8-2.

The excellent coaching, the tough practice partners, the hard work and dedication that has now become an 8 month a year sport to compete on a national level has paid big rewards for this third year wrestler.

Landon trains and wrestles for YOUNG BUCKS Wrestling Club.

Landon is already looking forward towards next season and taking a break from all the national traveling that he did this year, saying that he is excited to get to wrestle at tournaments in Iowa.
