Dutch golfers win 3A super meet

A golf tournament that was slated to pair the top teams in the state in Class 3A golf from the year before was played in Ames April 30.

The only team missing from the top six squads in the 2012 boys’ state field were the Decorah Vikings, who were replaced by the Grinnell Tigers.

Decorah won the 2012 Class 3A State Championship.

The strong contingent of varsity boys’ teams faced the elements as well as the course. Winds were gusting to 30 miles per hour for the meet.

Nothing stopped the Pella High Little Dutch from claiming the win in what was dubbed as a Class 3A Super Meet.

Pella won a hotly contested meet with a score of 321. Washington was second at 322 followed by Clear Lake at 323, Fairfield at 333, Grinnell 337 and Williamsburg at 344.

Pella and Clear Lake each had two of the top five golfers in the field.

Dillon DePerrott, of Washington, was medalist with a 71.

Pella’s Sean Rennich carded a 77 for the third best score of the day and Corey Elliott was fifth at 80.

Colton Bradley at 81 and Jack Meyer at 83 rounded out the Pella scoring for the day. Meyer and Bradley each were among the nine best scores.

The Dutch, who are coached by Bob Fessler, are now 36-2 for he season.
