Local Knights of Columbus Council sponsors Youth Soccer Challenge Competition

Pella — All boys and girls ages 10-14 were invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2013 Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge.  The local/district competition was held in the month of September at the Pella Soccer Complex.  During the event 145 youth participated in this year's activity!

Nine boys and girls from Pella, ages 10-14, were named local and district champions and earned the right to compete at the regional level.

The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, regional, and state competitions.  International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarters based in New Haven, CT on scores from the state-level competitions.  All contestants on the local level were recognized for their participation in the event.

The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with 1.8 million members in over 14,000 local councils.  Last year, Knights donated 70 million volunteer hours and $154 million to charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their Church, communities, councils, Culture of Life, families and youth.

The local/district winners included: Back row (l to r): Dakota Schippers (1st place boys age 11), Jordan Buma (1st place boys age 13), Jenna Pierce (3rd place girls alternate age 12), Amanda Stanley (1st place girls age 14), Alex Hackett (2nd place girls age 13). Middle row (l to r):  Kody Kramer (2nd place boys age 11), Matthew Lunsford (1st place boys age 12), Jaed Van Maanen (2nd place boys age 12), Sydney Hooyer (2nd place girls age 11). Front row (l to r): Ryan Mace (1st place boys age 10), Evan Ferguson (2nd place boys age 10), Courtney Paxton (1st place girls age 10), Brooklyn Wright (2nd place girls age 10). Not present for picture included:  Lisa Dykstra (1st place girls age 11), Josie Lickteig (1st place girls age 12), Elsie Thoreson (2nd place girls age 12), Erica Bossard (1st place girls age 13), Chris DeMoss (2nd place boys age 13), Kloe Lambert (2nd place girls age 14). 

Congratulate the above mentioned student-athletes for having represented 145 of their peers in successful participation of these activities.  The winner or alternate at the Local and District Competition advanced to the Regional competition on October 5th and the State competition on October 19th.
