DECORAH — Taylor Hill recorded her third top-10 finish in four outings as the Central College women’s golf team knocked off four Iowa Conference opponents and tied for third at the Luther Invitational Saturday.
Hill carded an 84-82—166 at the par-72 Oneota Golf and Country Club to share seventh place in the 49-player field while the Dutch shot 348-345—693, tying AIB in the team standings. Wartburg rolled to first in the nine-team tourney at 329-333—662, six shots ahead of Viterbo (Wis.). Central was eight strokes in front of league foe Simpson and also topped tourney host Luther, Coe and Dubuque.
Kelsey Van Tassell (junior, Pella) tied for 11th place at 85-85—170 with Chelsey Shuey tied for 20th at 90-87—177, Rachel Cassens tied for 25th at 89-92—181, Ali Kallsen was 34th at 96-91—187 and Emily Fisher finished 38th at 99-93—192.
Shuey was two shots off her career-best round of 86 from a year ago.
Wilkinson likes the direction his squad is headed leading into the first two rounds of the 72-hole Iowa Conference tournament Friday and Saturday at the par-72 Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
Defending champion Wartburg is a heavy favorite. The Dutch hope to be back in the first division after slipping to fifth place last fall following four straight years of second-place finishes.
Pheasant Ridge features a fairly wide-open layout but the final 36 holes will be played at the more restrictive Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids Oct. 4-5.
