Central volleyball rallies in five-set match

---- — Coming back from a two-game deficit, the Central College volleyball team battled its way to victory in five sets against Augustana College (Ill.) last Friday night.

The Dutch took the Vikings two extra-point sets, winning 31-33, 12-25, 35-33, 25-19, 15-11. Central came out swinging in the first set, matching Augustana point for point before dropping the second set, hitting just .000.

Junior setter Claire Stewart tallied a double-double with 52 assists and 15 digs. Outside hitters Sara Snead and Jessica Laflin shared top hitting honors with 14 kills. Snead also had 14 digs.

Middle hitter Hannah Welter had 12 kills. Right-side hitter Emily Stoakes totaled nine kills and middle hitter Shantell Gish had seven kills.

Libero Tori Zempel and outside hitter Nicole Ewoldt each had 23 digs. Emily Lewis marked seven digs.

The Dutch are now 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
