PC girls, boys run in Osky

A light drizzle opened the night at the Oskaloosa Cross Country Invitational, but by the time the varsity teams took to the course, everything was just right for running.

The Pella Christian Eagles finished in seventh place in the varsity boys’ team scoring and eighth in the varsity girls’ race.

Varsity Girls

For the most part the Eagles ran in a nice little pack.

Andrea Carballo was the team leader for PC with a 45th place finish at 19:19. She was followed by Morgan Anderson in 46th at 19:29, Damaris Worthington was 50th at 19:37, Marina Shannon was 54th at 20:20 and Abby Van Soelen 61st at 21:32 in the 4K event.

Williamsburg won the varsity girls’ portion of the meet with a score of 41 points followed by Oskaloosa with 57.

The Eagles totaled 232 points.

Varsity Boys

The PC boys’ tallied 196 points in the varsity 5K race. Williamsburg again won the team title with 46 points and Oskaloosa was runner-up with 54.

Leaders for Coach Jocelyn Meinders’ PC squad were Jacob Lensing in 10th at 18:15, Grant Dunsbergen 35th at 19:17, Jonathan Beltman 43rd at 19:43, Scott Haveman 51st at 20:09 and Samuel Dahm 57th at 20:59.

There were a total of 79 runners in the varsity race.

JV Teams

Brianna Van Donselaar was the lone PC runner in the JV girls’ race. She ran 25:42 for 44th place.

PC was sixth in the JV boys’ team total with 153 points.

The Eagles leader was Gabriel Soler in 23rd place at 21:33 and Sam Lensing 32nd at 21:55.

The rest of the PC runners included David Dykstra 43rd at 23:29, Zach Shen 52nd at 24:30 and Kelvin Ouyang 54th at 25:03.

Middle School

The Eagles were sixth in the middle school boys’ team race with 146 points.

PC leaders were Nathan VerMeer in seventh at 10:11, Lucas Bandstra 16th at 10:42, Noah Van Maanen 32nd at 11:02, Martin Landazurri 52nd at 11:52, Michael Munoz 67th at 12:30 and Sam Carmichael 86th at 13:12.
