A work in progress

Spencer Carlstone offers a helping hand during renovations of Tamory Hall.

After two years searching for the ideal location in multiple buildings and rejected offers, Spencer Carlstone unexpectedly found the perfect space for Tamory Hall, a new event space coming to the heart of historic downtown Pella.

“Tamory,” which means “the power of love,” will be a luxury event and gathering space for weddings, family get-togethers, business meetings, conferences, corporate gatherings, reunions and private events. The 9,000 square foot space is large enough to occupy about 350 to 400 people.

“The response so far has been great,” said Carlstone. “We’ve had a lot of local interest already.”

Carlstone partnered with Kris Van Gent of Iowa Bike, Josh Cowman and their wives to purchase the building. The event space is next to ROCO and will occupy the top floor of all three spaces. The event space will include a lounge and living room area, a catering/prep space, a groom’s cellar in the basement, a bride’s room and extra rental space.

Carlstone’s wife, Amanda, describes the space as elegant industrial, with original brick walls, hardwood floors, warm yet simple colors and lights with plenty of character. Carlstone is hoping to attract individuals from the Des Moines and Chicago areas who prefer an Americana, small-town feel.

“I feel like Pella has so much more to offer, and we’re looking to bring more people in to the community,” said Carlstone. “I think it’s going to be great for our community, and it’s going to be a really neat space.”

Carlstone began renovations early this summer and is hoping to complete the space in September/early October. The business is located at 616 Franklin Street, Suite 201.
