Local coronavirus-related cancelations

Schools, churches, organizations, businesses and public facilities have announced closings, cancelations and changes due to the coronavirus outbreak.

All city of Pella offices, with the exception of the Pella Police Department, will be closed to the public beginning at 4:30 p.m. on March 19 through April 13. While facilities will be closed to walk-in traffic, city staff will be available via email or by phone. Requests for in-person assistance must be made in advance and will be scheduled by appointment only. Pella Community Schools will be closed until Monday, April 13.

Pella Christian Schools will be closed until Monday, April 13.

Central College will not resume in-person classes on March 30 after spring break. Instead, the college will transition to remote teaching and learning for the remainder of the spring semester. Only by exception will students be able to remain on campus. All major events and activities have been canceled until further notice.

Meeting changes for all government entities in Pella will be posted online at https://www.cityofpella.com/calendar.aspx?CID=14.

Pella City Hall will be closed to the public effective March 19 at 4:30 p.m. to April 13. Individuals are encouraged to use any of the following options to pay their bill:

The Pella Police Department will remain open during this time with additional precautions in place. To lessen the risk of exposure when possible, the department will be taking reports by phone. While the department remains operational, the public is strongly encouraged to call 641-628-4921 for all non-emergencies. If an in-person visit to the department is necessary, please use the intercom system by the marked door on the north side of the building near the overhead garage doors. Individuals needing emergency assistance should continue to call 911.

The following Community Services facilities will be closed effective Wednesday, March 18. The expected re-opening date is Monday, April 13.

  • All programs have been canceled. Refunds or credits will be offered to those who have already paid for programming or rentals. In addition, aquatic season passes will be extended for the length of the facility closure. For questions, team members can be reached by phone at 641-628-4571.

The Pella Public Library will be closed, and all programs will be canceled effective Wednesday, March 18. The expected date of re-opening is Monday, April 13. Due dates for items currently checked out have been extended to April 13. Residents are encouraged to utilize resources available online at the library’s website: https://www.cityofpella.com/190/Library. For questions, team members can be reached by phone at 641-628-4268.

Pella Cinemas will be closed until March 31.

All in-person group activities and services are canceled at Calvary Christian Reformed Church through the end of March. Services will be streamed at calvarypella.org/watch-live/.

This year’s Dutch Costume Exchange scheduled for April 2-4 at the Scholte Church has been canceled. Those in need of a costume can contact Amy Vasina at 641-628-4311. She can connect you with a seamstress.

Union Street Players has postponed all rehearsals for “Vincent” and “Mama Mia!” until April 12.

All services and activities at First Baptist Church in Pella are canceled through April 13.

The Marion County Pheasants Forever banquet scheduled for March 28 will be postponed for a later date (TBD).

Friends of the Pella Public Library’s program with author Tosca Lee, scheduled for April 16, has been postponed until September.

The Pella Opera House will be closed to the public through April 18. All performances scheduled through May 9 will be postponed for a later date.

All services at Connect Church in Pella are canceled for the next two weeks.

All services and activities at First Baptist Church in Pella are canceled until April 13.

The Pella Good Samaritan Free Clinic is closed March 19 to April 2.

Bibles for Missions Thrift Center will be closed until April 1. Donations will still be accepted.

A meeting scheduled for April 7 for the Pella Area Quilt Guild has been canceled.

Pella Community Ambulance is closed to the public until further notice. Emergency services will proceed as normal.

Dutch language classes scheduled for April 2-30 with Carol Hoeksema are canceled.

Blush + Simple Treasures will be closed until March 31.

Faux Paws Bakery will be closed until further notice.

The Hall Tree is temporarily closed.

The Wijn House will be closed to the public until further notice, but customers can request curbside pickup or delivery.

Iris Coffee Company will be closed until April 1.

Makers on Main will be closed until April 1.

The Funky Zebras will be offering curbside pickup and delivery until further notice.

Liberty Street Kitchen will be closed until March 31.

The Klompen Classic scheduled for May 6 will be postponed at a later date.

All public recreation areas at Lake Red Rock, including campsites, are closed. Boat ramps and trails remain open.

Cadet-O-Rama scheduled for March 28 by the Pella Hawkeye Cadet Council is cancelled.

The IMPACT Army Post in Marion County will be closed but will still offer services via phone. IMPACT Marion County Resource Center: 641-842-6571.

All services at Covenant Reformed Church in Pella are canceled until April 12. Services will be available on Facebook.

Pella Cooperative Electric’s 84th annual Board of Directors meeting has been postponed.

All services and activities at Trinity Reformed Church are canceled until April 5.

The Pella Chronicle office will be closed to the public until further notice. A drop box is located outside the building where the public can drop off items for staff. Additionally, staff will continue working and be available by phone at 641-628-3882 or by email at addresses found on their website.

The Pine Rest Pella Clinic is closed to the public but will remain open for teletherapy services only. Call 641-628-9599 to schedule an appointment.

In an effort to protect the health of their employees and in support of local COVID-19 guidelines, the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency’s (SCISWA) scale houses and offices are temporarily closed to the public. They will maintain regular business hours and continue to accept solid waste and recycling from residents and haulers.

The Gene Van Wyk Memorial Run scheduled for April 11 has been canceled.

Vander Ploeg Bakery will remain open and is offering delivery services.

Jaarsma Bakery will remain open and is offering curbside pickup and delivery services. 

In’t Veld’s Meat Market & Opa’s Deli will remain open. They are offering carryout and delivery services. 

The dining area at Smokey Row is closed to the public. The café is open for carryout.

The Dutch Fix drive-thru remains open. 

The Sanctuary is offering curbside or carryout services. 

The dining area at The Windmill Café is closed to the public. They are offering carryout, curbside or delivery within city limits.

George’s Pizza & Steakhouse is offering curbside pickup, carryout and in-town delivery. 

Cantarito’s Grill & Cantina is offering carryout services only. 

Brew Coffee House is offering carryout only.

Nederlanders Tap & Golf is offering beer delivery. League Golf has been postponed until April 6. They are not accepting reservations for their simulator bays. The tentative reopening date will be April 1.

The Cellar Peanut Pub is offering beer delivery and curbside pickup. 

The Tulip Time Queen Royalty Party has been postponed to a later date.
