In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, “Cabaret” explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich.

Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken by English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. Some of the musical numbers include “Willkommen,” “Cabaret,” “Mein Herr,” “Maybe This Time,” and “Two Ladies.”

The cast includes Richard Sanchez as the Emcee; Vinz Faure as Clifford Bradshaw; Anne McCullough-Kelly as Fräulein Schneider; Doug DeWolf as Herr Schultz; Elizabeth Rouse as Fräulein Kost; Meredith Ackerman as Sally Bowles; Cody Jacobson as Ernst Ludwig; Angel Del Rio as Max; Mia Condon as Rosie; Mollie Abkes as Lulu; Hasija Terzic as Frenchie; Kaeanne Louks as Texas; Mary Busker as Frenchie; Andrea Boggard as Helga; Xaiver Bryant as Bobby; Periko Garrido as Victor; with the ensemble consisting of Maithyto Phengymany, Taryn Sikkema, Cailyn Sales, Hannah Woerner and Maddie McClure.

Production assignments for “Cabaret” include Jessica Popejoy-Geiken (set design); Ron Rybkowski (technical director and lighting design); Kate Kanne (costume design); Devin Walter (co-choreographer); Jackee Jones (stage manager); and Rachel Allen (assistant stage manager).

“Cabaret” is the final mainstage show of Theatre Central’s 2019-2020 season. “Snapshots,” a production directed by student Cailyn Sales, will be May 3-6 at 7 p.m. in the Mr. B. Studio Theatre.
