Bos Landen will be open - soon!
New owners, Tom and Judy Reuter along with their son Scott and his wife Stephanie Reuter took ownership of the Bos Landen Golf Resort last week following an agreement with the City of Pella on a lease of the golf course and facilities.
The Reuters are hoping to open the facility, which includes Grill on the Green - a restaurant located inside the Bos Landen clubhouse and the Bos Landen Conference Center by June 8. The Bunker Lounge will not be reopened and the current space will be used for banquets and other special events.
“That’s what we are shooting for,” Scott said. “All facilities will be utilized. The restaurant will be open seven days a week during the lunch hour through supper. We will also offer the ‘Grill Your Own’ option in the restaurant during specific times and days of the week.”
Weddings and other social gatherings are also options that will be utilized in the banquet and conference areas of the clubhouse. Possible leasing options are being looked into for these areas for events.
Scott, who began playing the game of golf as a youngster, graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture. Scott and wife Stephanie have two boys, Hogan, 6, and Payton, 4.
“I wanted to design golf courses,” Scott said. “During my junior and senior year of college a good friend of mine got a job as an assistant golf professional in the Twin Cities. He asked me to check out that side of the golf business.”
The rest is history, according to Scott. After passing his P.A.T (Player's Ability Test), Scott finished up his undergraduate work at ISU and began working at Willingers Golf Club in Northfield, MN.
Scott spent four-years at the public golf facility, while achieving the title of a Class A PGA Professional. After a brief stay at a course in Lakeville, MN, which was built by the owners of Willingers Golf Club, Scott served as Head Golf Professional and General Manager at Heritage Links in Lakeville, MN.
“I had been looking to purchase a golf course for about the last year and a half,” Scott said. “Being from LeMars originally, I wanted to get back to Iowa and a small town. That is what drew me to Pella.”
Scott also saw a lot of similarities between Bos Landen and Willingers Golf Club.
“I really enjoyed my experiences at Willingers Golf Club and I felt a comfort level here in Pella,” Scott said.
Tom Reuter, Scott’s father, has been a builder of custom homes for over 25 years and also has experience in the restaurant business. Tom worked for a restaurant chain doing remodeling, building new restaurants from the ground up and repairing kitchen equipment.
Other exciting endeavors the Reuters are looking into at Bos Landen are a summer tournament schedule and the sale of summer golf passes for area golfers.
Minor renovation are being planned for the clubhouse in the fall of 2009. The Reuters hope to close a couple weeks earlier than normal so that projects can be completed before the winter season begins.
“We want to get things back to the conditions people are familiar with,” Scott said. “We have short and long range goals. We will be doing projects in phases and will have a list of yearly things we will address.”
Scott also commented that Leighton State Bank and the City of Pella, especially Pella Parks and Recreation Director, Kevin Vos, have been great to work with and have all welcomed him and his family to Pella.
“It has been a very positive response,” Scott said. “Kevin even came to us and asked what levels we wanted the grass mowed in order to be ready to open in June.”
