Central College will welcome its largest incoming class in five years with 365 students this fall.
Enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year includes 346 first-year students and 19 transfer students. The expected fall class includes students from 26 states, as far away as Hawaii and Massachusetts.
Of the incoming first-year students, nearly two-thirds are from Iowa, while 123 are from out of state. Illinois leads the way with 38 students, while 19 students from Arizona also are headed to Central.
Sixteen percent of these students have or have had siblings enroll at the college, and more than 10 percent are children of Central graduates. Ethnic diversity stands at 20 percent, which has increased from 10.8 percent in the 2018-2019 school year. Nearly one-third are planning to major in a STEM field.
Classes for the fall semester begin Aug. 28. New students arrive on campus Aug. 24, with returning students joining them Aug. 26.
