The 2019 Marion County Fair 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale is scheduled for Thursday, July 18 at 8:30 a.m. The sale will take place at the Marion County Fair Grounds.

At the sale, members will be selling their market-ready livestock projects. This is the perfect opportunity to come and support the youth of the county and stock up your freezer with local home-grown meat.

The sale is open to anyone interested in buying livestock that has been produced by Marion County 4-H and FFA members. Each year the buyer support is outstanding for the 4-H members. Buyers range from local businesses and corporations to individual families.

Local meat processors or meat lockers can custom process your meat order to fit your needs. The local lockers will be on site to take the animal directly to the locker from the fairgrounds; all the buyer needs to do is let them know how to prepare the meat. The lockers are also very knowledgeable on meat cuts and will work with the buyer on the size of the cuts as well.

A typical half beef consists of approximately 14 T-bone steaks, eight sirloin steaks, 14 rib steaks, eight round steaks, six chuck roasts, two rump roasts, two sirloin tip roasts, four arm roasts, eight packages stew beef, four packages soup bones, four packages short ribs and 80-100 pounds of ground beef.

A typical half hog consists of approximately 12-14 pounds of pork chops, 6-8 pounds of ground pork/ground sausage, two packages of spare ribs, one ham, three shoulder roasts, 8-10 pounds of bacon and two smoked hocks.
