The Pella Chamber of Commerce launched their year-long “Go Local, Grow Pella” shop local campaign in April 2009. The original idea arose from discussions by the board regarding the tightening economy and a desire to encourage Pella residents to invest in the local economy rather than taking their money to larger cities such as Des Moines. The design of the campaign embraces a holistic approach to this initial idea by incorporating numerous avenues of participation for member businesses. The campaign consists of coordinated efforts for Chamber member businesses, such as light pole banners adopted by member businesses, window clings, the retail promotion ‘kick-off’ in mid-April, and the “Member Merits” incentive program. In addition, the Chamber is offering other businesses free use of the “Go Local, Grow Pella” logos, tagline, and images. A website banner has also been developed for use online.

The Chamber hopes that by offering other businesses the chance to use artwork, the success of the campaign will be increased. “When you have a chance to participate in the program, either as a business or as a customer, please do. Because when we support each other to keep our local economy vibrant, we all win,” said Chamber of Commerce 2009 board president David Greving of Marion County Bank.
