The Pella School Board accepted the resignation of board member Lisa Jansen on Tuesday.

Jansen’s last day is June 16, and the board has 30 days to fill the vacancy after resignation. The board will publish an intent to appoint to fill the open seat by June 4 and plans to fill the vacancy by July 15.

According to school board policy, the board must fill the position 30 days after vacancy occurs or a special election must be held 60 days after vacancy. A special election could also be held if the board receives a valid petition.

The appointed individual will fulfill the position until school board elections in November.

The board secretary will gather names June 4-19 of those who are interested in the position. Individuals who would like to inquire about the position should contact the Pella School District Administration.

Superintendent Greg Ebeling stated Jansen has been battling a long-term illness and feels she can no longer fulfill her duties. She will receive a plaque for her service on the board.
