Pella High School received 11 Division I ratings from State Large Group Speech competition and has had two groups nominated for All-State Large Group Speech as non-performers.
Pella High School competed at State Large Group Speech on Saturday, Feb. 2.
A total of 18 entries performed. Entrants varied and included from solo mime, musical theatre, ensemble acting, radio broadcasting, group improvisation, short film, one act play, readers theatre and television news.
Eleven entries received Division I ratings, with eight of those receiving straight Division I ratings from all three judges. Seven entries received Division II ratings.
All-State nominations for Large Group Speech were announced on Monday, Feb. 4. Pella had two non-performing All-State groups featuring 14 students nominated this year.
Musical theatre group, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, featuring Connor Gauley, Ezra Blasi, Frances DeArmond, Hanna Kendall, Hannah Tschetter, Lydia Taylor, Travis Mitchell and William Rasmussen was chosen.
Television news group, POPN News, featuring Gavin Klein, Gavin Tierney, Troy Miller, Jacob Schemm, Levi Duggar and Matthew Thompson was also chosen. POPN News has gone to All-State three years in a row, twice as non-performers and once as performers.
