The Pella Professional and Business Women’s Forum will feature guest speakers Nancy Van Wyk and Elaine Malek on the topic of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia on July 18.

The forum will be held at Central College in the Graham Conference Center – Graham 1 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided, and guests are encouraged to join with an annual membership if they desire. Van Wyk has worked in memory loss units for over twenty years and has been involved in facilitating support groups for at least 15 years. She is a certified dementia practitioner and a certified trainer through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. Van Wyk was the director of nursing when the Cottages opened and is currently semi-retired but still teaching nurses and CNAs.

Malek has worked in the long-term care setting for 31 years. She was a support group facilitator for over 15 years at Pella Regional Health Center and has been helping as a co-facilitator the last couple of years. She is a licensed social worker and a certified dementia practitioner.

The forum is a networking and professional development organization for women in Pella and the surrounding area. Members meet the third Thursday of each month (except August) for networking and learning from featured speakers. Membership is open to career-oriented and business women of all ages who are interested in enhancing their personal and professional life and forming valuable connections with other women in the community.
