5 students selected for Boys and Girls State

Submitted photoAiden Brumwell, Joe Beukelman, Thomas Gaul, Caroline Mc Martin and Emily Van Norden have been selected to represent Pella High School at Boys and Girls State in June.

The American Legion Post 89 and its Auxiliary will sponsor representatives for the 2019 Boys and Girls State.

Boys and Girls State are educational programs where high school students learn about their local, county and state government.

On June 9-14, approximately 500 high school boys will gather at Camp Dodge in Johnston for Boys State. During the week of June 16-21, approximately 300 high school girls will attend Girls State at Drake's Campus in Des Moines.

Students are selected by counselors and faculty from Pella Community High School. Representatives this year are Joe Beukelman, Thomas Gaul, Aiden Brumwell, Caroline McMartin and Emily Van Norden.

Joe is the son of Terri Menninga and Dave Beukelman, Thomas is the son of Kevin and Erin Gaul and Aiden is the son of Mary and Charlie Strey.

Caroline is the daughter of Jeff and Laurie McMartin and Emily is the daughter of Russ and Kathy Van Norden.
