Synergy Contracting and Fox Engineering have been chosen to complete two projects for the city of Pella.

Synergy Contracting, a company out of Bondurant, will be working on the Lift Station Repairs Project. The company will be replacing the hardware on existing ladders and access hatches, installing or relocating wet well level transducers and other miscellaneous work associated with the three lift stations.

The city received two bids on May 22 for the project. Synergy Contracting bid $63,000, while Minturn bid $88,500. After reviewing the bid proposals and checking multiple references, Fox Engineering, the project engineer, recommended Synergy Contracting. The project engineer estimates the cost of the project will be approximately $45,000.

The project will begin July 19, and completion is slated for Oct. 30 of this year.

In addition to the Lift Station Repairs Project, the city has approved an engineering services agreement with Fox Engineering out of Ames for the West Third Street Sanitary Relief Sewer Improvements Project. The general purpose of the project is to remove and replace the existing, undersized sanitary sewer on West Third Street from Liberty Street to Union Street.

The agreement includes design, permitting, bidding and construction phase services related to the installation. The company will be installing 471 linear feet of new 15-inch sanitary sewer and 450 linear feet of storm sewer. Fees for these services are estimated and are not to exceed the amount of $99,800.

This project is the last of the 2009 Iowa Department of Natural Resources wastewater mandated projects.
