The Marion County Board of Supervisors approved official 2019 election results on Nov. 12.

After a tight race, Liz Terborg Sporrer came out eight votes ahead of incumbent Tony Bokhoven for Pella’s At-Large seat.

On election night, Sporrer had earned 957 votes while Bokhoven trailed close behind with 949 votes. Later that week, Marion County Auditor Jake Grandia confirmed nine outstanding absentee ballots for the city of Pella still remained and could be eligible to be counted in the race.

On Nov. 8, Grandia said the 2019 City/School Special Precinct Board accepted three absentee ballots that met the mailing deadline of Nov. 4 and one provisional ballot cast on Election Day. The board rejected two absentee ballots due to late postmark. Sporrer, Bokhoven and Chris Meyers each received one vote.

Sporrer, Don DeWaard, Calvin Bandstra and David Hopkins will begin their terms as city officials on Jan. 1, 2020.
