Eighth graders from Pella Community and Pella Christian Schools had the opportunity to learn about careers in manufacturing at Pella Corporation during the month of October.

Students were welcomed by Kevin Gaul, director of operations, before receiving a tour of the plant and participating in a production activity. The activity taught students the 5S System, which consists of five pillars: sort, set in order, shine, standardize and sustain. The system’s visual management has improved organization and efficiency in many workplaces, especially manufacturing jobs.

Students split into groups and packaged 87 meals based on what they had learned. The meals were donated to The Well in Pella for families in need this time of year.
