Pella Christian opened defense of its Little Hawkeye Conference Championship by tripping up the Norwalk Warriors 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 last Tuesday evening at home.

The Eagles improved to 5-4 overall with the three game sweep.

The 15th ranked Class 2A Eagles, were led in hitting by Jenny Horstman with 11 kills and Meredith Fopma with 10.

“It was a good first win in the conference for us,” stated veteran PC Coach John Evenhouse.

“We weren’t real sharp, but Paige Zylstra, Darci Jansen and Meredith Fopma all played well to carry us to the win,” the coach added.

Zylstra had five blocks and Horstman three at the defensive side of the net. Ashley Van Kooten had 16 digs, Courtney Van Kooten added 15 and Darci Jansen totaled 14.

Bekah Posthuma again ran the offense, as she was credited with 28 assists.

Courtney Van Kooten led the serving with three aces, while Jansen and A. Van Kooten each had two aces.

PC team numbers consisted of 12 blocks in the match, 72 digs, 34 kills and nine ace serves for the night.
