A few soccer all-state recognition was recently handed out to athletes from around the state.

In Class 2A Boys Soccer the Pella High Little Dutch placed Ben Nelson and Nathan Leathers both on the Honorable Mention All-State squad. The two young men are seniors.

Nelson was a forward on the Dutch squad while Leathers was a midfielder.

The Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association (IGCA) released their all-state squads recently as well.

Named to the IGCA All-State squad in Class 2A from Pella High were Chloe Griffin and Grace Held. Griffin and Held were both seniors on the Lady Dutch squad.

Held was tied for third in the state for most goals this year with 38.

The state leader was Jori Bronner of Unity Christian with a total of 42 goals.

Pella senior Josie Lickteig was a second team all-state selection in Class 2A by the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association.

Pella Christian senior Lindsay Breon was named to the Class 1A second-team all-state squad by the IGCA.

The Eagles were one win shy of reaching the state tournament in Des Moines.


Pella had three players named to the Class 2A Central All-District First-Team. They were Griffin, Held and Lickteig. Caroline Bradley was a second-team all-district selection.

In 1A S.E. District, Breon was a first-team all-district pick and Anna Van Zee was on the second-team.
