The Pella High wrestling team had a really big day on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Jan. 20.
The Dutch went 3-0 in duals against Carlisle, PCM (Monroe) and S.E. Warren/Melcher-Dallas.
Pella topped the Carlisle Wildcats 42-38. They slipped past the PCM (Monroe) Mustangs 48-36 and they clobbered S.E. Warren/Melcher-Dallas 55-24.
Starting with a win over the Carlisle Wildcats, the Dutch had seven wins on the mat, all by fall.
The pins were by Ryan Hancock (113), Peyton Ritzert (120), Dylan Parsons (138), Ryan Van Donselaar (145), Nathan Born (152), Kody Huisman (220) and Braydon Peterson (285).
Four of the pins collected by Coach Jay Pike’s squad were recorded in the first period.
Tyson Mick at 126 pounds dropped a narrow 7-5 verdict.
The good times kept rolling as the Dutch beat the Mustangs 48-36.
The Little Dutch picked up five pins and three forfeits en route to the victory.
Forfeits were handed down to Hancock, Logan Schroeder and Quinn Rhamy.
Winning with pins were Van Donselaar, Born, CJ Smith and Huisman.
Pella dominated the action against the Warhawks by claiming four forfeits, four falls and two decisions.
Hancock, Schroeder, Huisman and Peterson all were issued forfeits.
Winning with pins for the green and white were Born, Blake Darnell, Braden Schulte and Smith.
Ritzert went to overtime to beat Drew Kelson 12-8 and Van Donselaar won a major decision at 145 pounds by the tally of 13-3.
Pella will host Grinnell in a dual meet Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 1 Indianola will host the LHC Tournament starting at 10 a.m.
