PELLA—Four returning starters. An additional year of maturity. Some potentially high-impact freshmen.

A lot of the indicators are pointing up for coach Joe Steinkamp as he pushes his Central College women’s basketball team’s rebuild another step forward. But there are also some inescapable realities.

“Even though we’re experienced, we’re still very young,” Steinkamp said. “Weonly have two seniors in our program.”

Central was 7-18 overall a year ago as Steinkamp was into his second year at the helm. In league play the Dutch were 3-13 for the year in the American Rivers Conference.

Kendall Brown, a 6’1” senior from Moravia headlines the list of veterans back for Central. She was a second-team all-league pick a year ago.

Jenna Clark, a sophomore guaard, is back as the leading scorer from a year ago.

Central opens the 2019-20 campaign at home Friday as they face Grinnell with tipoff slated for 6 p.m. at Kuyper Gym.
