PELLA — Will Daniels (senior, Geneseo, Ill.) won both the NCAA Division III track and field indoor and outdoor field events Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year honors as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team Tuesday

Daniels was joined by Kyle Pape (senior, Dubuque, Wahlert Catholic HS) on the All-Academic team.

To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must post a 3.3 or better combined GPA and compete in an NCAA Division III indoor or outdoor championship or finish the regular season ranked in the top 35 in the nation in an individual event.

During the indoor season, Daniels was the national champion in the heptathlon, scoring 5,418 points. Earlier in the season, he set a new Division III record with 5,441 points. He also had top-50 marks in the high jump (No. 5), 60-meter dash (No. 19) and 60-meter hurdles (No. 36).

In the outdoor season, Daniels won his second national decathlon crown with 7,427 points. It was the second-best mark in Division III history. He also had a top-50 mark in the high jump (No. 6).

Pape finished in the top-50 nationally in the 800-meter run outdoors (No. 44) and indoors (No. 25). He graduated with an exercise science degree and a 3.85 GPA.

The Dutch men have had 31 athletes win the honor 49 times.
