All State Baseball honors were picked up recently by several Marion County athletes.
In Class 2A, senior Will Dembski of Pella Christian was named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association to the first team unit.
Dembski was named as a pitcher. He will be attending Cal Tech in Pasadena, Calif., this fall.
Dembski led the 2A class in home runs with 12.
Dembski was also honored by the IPSWA (Iowa Print Sports Writers Association) on the 2A second-team unit.
Also named to the Class 2A all-state list from Marion County was Grant Fouch of Pleasantville as a second baseman. Fouch also is a senior.
Moving to Class 3A, Gabe Thomas of Pella was honored as a second team all-state selection as an outfielder. Thomas was a senior for the Pella High Little Dutch.
The captains of each of the four classes include, Peyton Williams of Johnston in 4A and Brett Sears of Harlan in 3A.
Moving to the smaller classes, Jake Hilmer of North Linn was the 2A captain while Josh Fitzgerald of Mason City Newman Catholic took the honors in 1A.
The IPSWA matched captains with the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association in all of the classes except 3A, where Central DeWitt’s Garrett Finley was the captain.
Finley led DeWitt to the best season in program history and a state runner-up finish in 3A. He will be headed to Central College to play baseball.
