On a day that started out to be a doubleheader, the Pella and Pella Christian varsity baseball teams were fortunate simply to get one game played.
The first game of the doubleheader was called off because of the lingering rain.
Officials worked hard to get the one varsity game played Wednesday, June 19.
Benefitting from all the hard labor put in, was the Pella High Little Dutch, who beat the Eagles in the Little Hawkeye Conference baseball showdown 10-0.
Tanner Dunsbergen was outstanding on the mound for the Dutch. The junior tossed a complete game two-hitter. He struck out five and walked three for the win.
Taking the loss for PC was Devin Haveman, who went 4.2 innings allowing seven hits and seven runs.
A single off the bat of Haveman and a double by Will Dembski was all the offense the Eagles managed to collect.
Pella on the other hand, pounded out 13 hits in the game.
Leadoff hitter River Baker was the leader with three hits, one being a double as he drove in five runs.
Nick Grandia, Gabe Thomas, Nick DeJong and Drew Hillman each had two hits for Coach Jesse Jablonski’s green and white clad Dutch squad.
Pella scored three runs in the second inning and three in the seventh. The other four runs crossed the plate for the Dutch in the top of the fifth.
Pella improved to 6-12 with the win and to 3-7 in the Little Hawkeye. The win snapped a six-game Dutch losing streak.
PC fell to 8-8 with the loss and to 5-5 in league play.
