Knoxville and Pella squared off in a non-conference varsity baseball game June 4 in Pella.
The Little Dutch started fast and looked back occasionally as the Panthers kept charging back into contention, but it was too little too late as the Dutch prevailed 9-7.
Pella led 5-0 at the end of one inning of play.
Knoxville tallied four runs in the second to close to within one.
Pella scored three in he third for an 8-4 lead.
Knoxville closed the gap to 8-6 and eventually fell 9-7.
The loss put the KHS record at 1-8 overall while Pella moved to 2-3 with the victory.
Pella used three pitchers in the contest while the Panthers had five players pitching.
Offensively the statistics were fairly even. The Dutch scored nine runs on nine hits and they received five walks.
Knoxville countered with seven runs on 10 hits and they were issued four walks.
Mason Wittmer earned the mound win with three innings of relief of starter Kaden Lyle.
Knoxville’s starter on the hill was Colton Jones, who worked 1/3rd of an inning and gave up four runs on two hits.
Pella had two hits each from Ben Akers and Nick Grandia. Akers had a pair of doubles in the game.
Noah Van Vark had one hit for the Dutch, but he drove in two runs.
Kaleb Streigle had three hits for the Panthers followed by Ben Olson and RJ Roberts each with two hits.
Carter Bailey had just one hit but it was a round-tripper that plated two runs.
Streigle also had two RBI for the Panthers in the setback.
