After opening the postseason with a 4-2 win at home over Union, the Pella Christian Eagles faced the PCM Mustangs.
The second round of Class 2A Regionals saw the Eagles win and advance again down the tournament trail. PC knocked off the PCM Mustangs 8-1 Tuesday, July 16. The game was played in State Center as West Marshall was the host school.
Will Dembski was powerful and strong on the hill. He worked six innings and gave up five hits and one run. The PC senior fanned nine to earn the win.
Devin Haveman pitched the seventh allowing just one hit.
The Mustangs finished the season with an overall record of 17-5. The 2019 campaign saw PCM string together 14 wins in a row as they went undefeated in the month of June.
Suffering the pitching loss for PCM was Derek Brown, who went five innings allowing six hits and five runs, three of which were earned.
PCM had two hits each from Brown and Wes Cummings.
The Pella Christian offense consisted of nine hits, two apiece from Dembski, Haveman and Matthew Bokhoven.
Haveman had two RBI and one of his hits was a home run.
Collecting one RBI each for Coach Jeff Bruxvoort’s Eagles were Dan Jungling, Dembski, Stone Turner, Cole Webster and Blake Veenstra.
