Pella opened Little Hawkeye Conference baseball action against the Indianola Indians Wednesday, June 5 on the road.
The Indians swept both ends of the league double dip by the scores of 7-5 and 2-1.
The two defeats dropped the Dutch to 2-5 for the season and 0-2 in the league.
For the Indians they moved to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in the LHC. It was their first two wins of the year.
Kael Kolarick was the winning pitcher in the opener in relief of Tyce Johnson.
In the nightcap Dallas Jackson twirled a 5-hitter allowing one run, striking out eight and walking one.
The tough luck loser for Pella in game two was Tanner Dunsbergen, who allowed six hits and two runs. He fanned five and walked one.
Taking the loss on the mound in game one for Coach Jesse Jablonski’s squad was Ben Akers, who worked 4.1 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits, only four of the runs were earned.
Starting with the opener th Dutch had eight hits, one each by Dunsbergen, Gabe Thomas, Nick DeJong, Noah Van Vark, Ryan Mace, Akers, Drew Hillman and Nick Grandia.
Akers had two of Pella’s four RBI with a double.
In game two, Pella still managed four hits, but could only push across a run in the top of the fourth.
Akers, Dunsbergen, DeJong and Warren Page had the hits.
Akers scored the lone run for Pella after he hit a double.
The game was tied 1-1 until the Indians got the game-winning run in the sixth.
Odds and Ends
The Dutch will face Gilbert on the road Thursday in a JV-Varsity twin bill starting at 5:30 p.m.
Friday, June 14 has the Dutch back at home to face the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs in a league doubleheader starting at 5:30.
