Pella had six hits and two runs when they faced the Newton Cardinals at home June 26 in varsity softball acton.

It proved to be enough for a win as the Lady Dutch rode the strong pitching performance of Maddie Parks, who gave up one run and only two hits to Newton. Parks struck out nine and walked two in the game.

The score was tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the fifth when the Dutch scored the winning run.

Alizabeth Van Dusseldorp had the lone RBI for Pella.

Pella hits were collected by Brynnlin Kroymann, Parks, Maddy Rempe, Van Dusseldorp, Elly Cairney and Kylie Tauke.

North Mahaska

Pella knocked off the North Mahaska Warhawks 7-2 June 25 at home.

The wins over Newton and North Mahaska raised the Pella mark to 11-13 overall and to 3-11 in league play.

Against the Warhawks, Parks earned the pitching win going six innings and allowing one earned run on four hits.

Ella Corbin pitched one inning in relief.

A four-run fifth inning lifted the Lady Dutch to a commanding 7-0 lead as the Dutch collected the win.

Parks was the hitting leader for Pella with three hits. Van Dusseldorp added two hits. The rest of the Dutch hits, one each came from Kroymann, Courtney Thompson, Maddy Rempe, Cairney, Tori Van Vark and Tauke.

Kroymann had two RBI to lead in that category.

Odds and Ends

Two of the three LHC wins by the Dutch have come against Newton.

Pella will face the PC Eagles Friday, July 5 in a league doubleheader at home.
