Pella Christian kept the pressure on the Newton Cardinals and they escaped with a 7-6 league win in game one of a twin bill played June 14 in Pella.

The contest was tied 5-5 entering the seventh. Newton scored one in the seventh only to see the Eagles tie it up 6-6 with a run in the bottom of the inning when Ivy Terpstra hit a double and scored on a single by Emri Agre.

Newton failed to score in the eighth, but the Eagles weren’t to be denied as Chloe Morgan reached base and scored the winning run on a double off the bat of Terpstra.

It was Terpstra’s third hit of the game.

In game two of the doubleheader the Cardinals gained a 14-5 win. The game was knotted at 3-3 entering the sixth when Newton scored 10 runs to put the game away.

Cheyanne Collins took the loss for PC.

Natalie Harrill was the hitting star for the Eagles as she blasted two home runs and added a single.

Morgan and Emri Agre each had two hits for PC in the setback.
