Pella Christian fell to 0-2 to start the new varsity basketball season.

The latest setback was 63-40 to No. 1 ranked Montezuma. The Braves are No. 1 in the Class 1A poll.

Montezuma rode the hot shooting of Shateah Wetering, who had 27 points, hitting 5 three-point shots along the way.

The Braves also had 11 points from Elise Boulton and a team high six boards from her.

Montezuma raced out to quarter leads of 22-8, 37-24 and 49-31 en route to the 23-point win in Pella.

The Eagles under the direction of head coach Brad Engbers had 11 points fro Chloe Morgan and 12 by Allison Van Gorp.

Van Gorp hit 6-of-9 field goals in the game to go along with a team high eight rebounds.

Montezuma won the battle of the boards 27 t 19.

Emma Witzenberg added eight points for PC and Emri Agre tossed in six points.

Avery Baugh led the PC squad with four assists and Morgan topped the steal chart with two.
