A doubleheader sweep is just what the doctor had in order for the Pella Christian varsity baseball team.
The sweep came against the Newton Cardinals Friday at home in a pair of five-inning games called by the 10-run rule.
It was the second Little Hawkeye Conference sweep of the week for Coach Jeff Bruxvoort’s squad, who also topped the Grinnell Tigers earlier in the week in Grinnell.
The wins raised the PC mark to 8-6 overall and to 5-3 in the league.
Newton on the other hand fell to 1-10 overall and to 0-8 in the lHC.
In the 14-4 contest the Eagles scored six runs in the second inning and seven big runs in the fifth to end the game.
The Eagles cranked out 11 hits to go along with eight walks that were issued.
Cole Webster and Will Dembski each smacked one home run. Webster had a double also as he drove in five runs.
Luke Mulder, Kyle Branderhorst and Dan Jungling also had two hits for the Eagles as Branderhorst plated three runs.
Devin Haveman was the winning pitcher as he worked five innings allowing 10 hits.
In the 12-1 win it was more of the same for the Eagles as they scored four runs in the first, three in the second and five more in the fourth to call it a night early.
Dembski had a big game with three hits. He was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle as he drove in three runs. Also driving in three for PC was Haveman while Cameron VanderWal had two RBI with a double.
Matthew Bokhoven had three hits for the Eagles while Haveman and Lawson Bruxvoort each had two hits.
Jack Anderson was the pitcher of record for PC as he gave up only one hit in earning the victory.
