Errors early on put the Panthers in a hole they couldn’t climb out of when they played the Pella Christian Eagles in softball June 13 in Knoxville.
The game was tied 1-1 through three innings. In the fourth the Eagles took a 2-1 advantage when Chloe Morgan singled and eventually scored on an error after moving up on a passed ball.
In the fifth the Eagles added four more runs with the assistance of another KHS error. Scoring in the fifth for PC were Danielle Vande Voort, and Sydney Nunnikhoven, both reached with walks.
Also scoring for the Eagles in the fifth were Natalie Harrill and Morgan, who had RBI hits in the inning.
Taking the pitching loss for KHS was left hander Jordyn Franck, who twirled a six-hitter at PC. She also had six strikeouts in the game.
Earning the win for PC was Danielle Vande Voort, who gave up seven hits to Knoxville.
Emery Neer had two KHS bunt singles and she scored twice.
Alex Griggs and Franck each added two Panther hits while Maddy Findley had one hit and an RBI.
Each team scored three runs in the ninth to make the final 9-4.
PC improved to 5-8 with the win while the Panthers slipped to 7-7 under the direction of head coach Coy Hupfeld. The Eagles are coached by Karen Harrill.
