Perry entered their varsity baseball game with the Pella Dutch July 15, still searching for that elusive first win of the season.
The Dutch didn’t give in as they lowered the Perry Bluejay mark to 0-23 with a solid 11-3 non-conference win at home.
Pella rode the pitching of Ryan Mace for the victory. Mace worked five full innings allowed five hits and three runs. He fanned 10 and walked three in the game.
Clayton Cummings and Kamden Lambert each worked one inning for Pella to end the night.
Pella had eight hits in the game.
Perry actually led 2-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the first. The lead went away right away as the Dutch countered with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Five more Pella runs the next two innings put the tally at 8-2 and it was never a contest the rest of the way.
Nick DeJong had two hits for the Dutch. Adding one hit apiece for Pella were River Baker, Tanner Dunsbergen, Mace, Nick Grandia, Kamden Lambert and Warren Page.
Baker, Grandia, Lambert and Page all had two RBI for Coach Jesse Jablonski’s squad.
The win snapped a skid that saw the Dutch drop eight of its previous nine outings. Three of those losses were by two runs or less.
