With the exception of a cancelled league doubleheader against Oskaloosa Friday night at home, it was a good week of baseball for the Little Dutch.
Pella split with the Norwalk Warriors June 24 in league play, falling 6-5 and winning 3-2.
The Dutch also knocked off the Newton Cardinals Wednesday at home 10-3.
The week ended with the Dutch sporting a record of 8-14 overall and a 5-9 mark in the Little Hawkeye.
A pair of five run innings lifted the Dutch over Newton. Pella scored five times in the third and sixth innings for the win.
River Baker was the winning pitcher as he worked four innings.
Baker fanned six and walked four in the game.
Gabe Thomas led the way offensively with three hits for Pella. Nick Grandia and Ryan Mace each added two hits for Pella. Mace had four big RBI for the night.
Drew Hillman had one hit, but drove in two runs as well.
In the 6-5 setback, Mace took the loss on the mound. He worked 5.2 innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs. Mace struck out five and walked two.
Baker had two hits for Pella as did Hillman.
Pella totaled 10 hits, the big blast for the Dutch was a solo home run off the bat of Gabe Thomas.
Pella scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but came up a run short of victory.
In the 3-2 win, the Dutch won in eight-innings. Kamden Lambert was the winning pitcher in relief of Tanner Dunsbergen.
Dunsbergen gave up four hits and two runs while on the mound.
Pella had five hits in the winning effort. RBI were delivered by Baker and Noah Van Vark.
Odds and Ends
The doubleheader with Oskaloosa will be made up July 8 in Pella.
Pella will host Pella Christian in a league doubleheader Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.
