The Pella High Lady Dutch had a strong start to the 2019 campaign with four straight wins.
The wins were over some very strong softball teams. The Dutch opened with victories over Ballard, Lynnville-Sully, North Polk and Ankeny.
Then the team hit a skid that saw them drop nine of their next 11 games.
A highlight to the season were a pair of wins at the Waverly-Shell Rock Tournament and a sweep of the Grinnell Tigers July 6.
The Dutch finished the year with five seniors on the team, Maddie Parks, Alizabeth Van Dusseldorp, Maddy Rempe, Elly Cairney and Sidnie Van Vark.
Parks led the Dutch with a .505 batting average followed by Rempe at .306, Cairney at .286 and Courtney Thompson at .274.
Parks also was the team leader with 13 extra base hits, 10 of them doubles.
The team RBI leader was Brynnlin Kroymann, a freshman, with 19 followed by Rempe and Ally Almond each with 15.
Parks also led the team with 24 stolen bases.
Parks was 11-15 as a pitcher with a 3.28 ERA. Ally Almond was 2-2.
Pella High was coached by Teresa Thompson who was in her second year in charge of the varsity program.
