Preseason rankings have been released for the 2019 cross country high school season.
The Pella varsity programs for both the boys and the girls have been steady and consistent competitors at the state meet for many years.
The 2019 Pella squad are both ranked very high to start the season.
The Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC) has ranked the Pella High Little Dutch No. 4 in Class 3A to open the year.
The Pella boys’ team finished the 2018 3A portion of the State Meet in fifth place in Fort Dodge.
Two other teams from the Little Hawkeye Conference are also ranked to open the year. Dallas Center-Grimes (DC-G) is No. 6 in the 3A poll and the Grinnell Tigers are slated at No. 13 by the IATC.
In individual rankings, three Pella runners have cracked the preseason top 30. Josiah Wittenberg, Cutler Turner and Mason Johnston. Wittenberg and Turner are both sophomores while Johnston is a senior.
Toss in two other lettermen back on the 2019 Dutch squad and it has the potential to be a sweet season for Pella High.
The Pella High Lady Dutch open the year ranked No. 5 in Class 3A.
Pella finished sixth at the 2018 State Meet in Fort Dodge.
Once again the LHC looks to be loaded on the girls’ side as well. DC-G opens the 2019 season ranked No. 2, Grinnell is No. 9 and the Norwalk Warriors check in at No. 14 in the IATC Poll.
Pella junior Ashley Blommers is ranked among 3A individuals in the top 30.
Five lettermen return to lead the way for the Lady Dutch this year.
