It was a brilliant evening for soccer Wednesday, May 22. The Pella High Little Dutch played host to the Oskaloosa Indians in Sub-State varsity boys’ soccer action.
The Dutch knocked off the Indians for the second time this season. The latest victory, at home, was by the final of 2-0.
The Class 2A soccer win put the Dutch at 9-8 overall and moved them into a showdown with the Knoxville Panthers for a right to advance to the State Tournament in Des Moines.
Pella senior Ben Nelson scored both of the Dutch goals, one of them was off an assist by Nathan Leathers.

The Dutch fell one win short of the state tournament in an effort to defend their Class 2A State title of a year ago.
Knoxville slipped past the Dutch 2-1 in a Substate final that came down to penalty kicks.
Knoxville led 1-0 with a goal in the 24th minute of play in the first half.
A late goal by Pella’s Ben Nelson on a breakaway gave the Dutch new life at 1-1.
Neither team could score in the two overtime sessions.
The contest went to penalty kicks and the Panthers prevailed 4-2.
Pella led 2-1 on penalty kicks before the Panthers scored on their final three attempts for the 4-2 win on penalty kicks giving the Panthers a 2-1 win in the match.
Knoxville goals were by Matt Brown, Cristian Magana, Elliott Schmidt, Emmett Schmidt and Sam Wadle. The game clinching kick was by Magana sending Knoxville to state with a 14-4 record, while Pella closed at 9-9.
The Pella Christian Eagles fell to Solon in soccer action Wednesday 4-0.
The loss ends the Eagle season with a mark of 6-10.
