It was rather methodical, but the Pella High Little Dutch slowly kept pulling away from the Newton Cardinals Tuesday, Feb. 4, in a league game played in Newton.

Pella managed to post a 69-48 win over Newton in LHC action.

After a 16 all tie at the conclusion of the first quarter Pella claimed a small 27-22 lead at intermission.

The victory put the Dutch at 13-4 overall and at 7-4 in the league. The win snapped a two-game losing streak to the top two teams in the league, one by one point and the other by two.

Coach Derek Schulte’s Dutch squad placed four players in double digits led by John Oltman with 18 on six-of-10 shooting from 3-point range.

Others hitting double digits were Warren Page and Logan Shetterly with 11 apiece and Grant Nelson with 10.

Shetterly also added eight assists and two steals to his game.

The Cardinals received a big boost offensively from Adam Mattes. The sophomore finished with 26 points overall.
